Fungility Times at Camp K-9!

Many of us know how stressful it can be leaving your pups at home alone for several hours, as we go to work or deal with other everyday life errands that take us away from home.  In this blog, we will explore the doggie daycare services offered by Camp K-9!

Camp K-9 is located in Westfield, Massachusetts and owned and run by a pawsome husband and wife team- Nick and Ali Connor.  Their passion for animals and the love for their girl Riley is what drove them to create this business.  Ali tells me that they built Camp K-9 to help other pet families have the accommodations for their canine companion that they would need while working throughout the day, or if they needed a little help with their dog releasing some energy.

Camp K-9 encompasses a family atmosphere, safe play, and a fun time.  Ali says that they want all of their customers to know that when they leave their dogs, who are referred to as campers, at Camp K-9 for any of the services, that the dogs will be treated like they are one of there own and that they are part of their family. Every dog that walks in the front door and every family that comes with them is part of Camp K-9's family.   Ali and Nick believe what sets them apart is their compassion for canine friends, and the close relationships that they have built with them, and their families.  Nick and Ali are happily married and are parents to two wonderful boys, who are four and two years of age, and a Labrador named Riley.

Camp K-9 offers Doggie Day Camp, Sleepovers, Grooming and an Indoor Dog Park & Fungility Gym. All of the campers are monitored in safe play, temperament tested, and separated by size. Doggie Day camp, all day play is offered six days a week! Camp K-9  loves to have fun! Each month they host a monthly Day Camp Pawty, as they call them. These are extra fun days of Day Camp, in which the campers participate in some great events. They have a Day Camp Prom coming up soon! In addition to Doggie Day camp, Camp K-9 also offers Sleepovers, so while pet parents are traveling and going away for a night or even weeks at a time, Camp K-9 can take care of their pups.

I asked Ali what she would recommend our readers do at home with their dog as play or training.   Ali notes that while having a dog is so much fun, dogs need to get out and exercise; taking your pup for a walk or a game of fetch is a good way to get their minds stimulated. However, many families today, have such limited time and energy to devote to their dog when it comes to playtime.  During Day Camp at Camp K-9 when the dogs are playing with their pals, it is a great way for them to let out some energy and for their minds to be stimulated.  She further notes that dogs can be a lot of work, and are a creature of routine. At home, it is always best to practice/work with them to continue to stimulate their minds. Practicing their recall is a great way to work and play with them, and it is a great exercise for any dog of any age.

Ali’s favorite Camp K-9 activity is working with the dogs in Camp K-9's Fungility Gym and teaching them how to jump the hurdles. It is awesome to teach a dog from start to finish and watch them sore over the hurdles exhibiting such a proud smile once they have completed it!
